As we begin the new year, Tour de Cure kicks off the beginning of the warm weather and great times. The 2018 tour de cure will take place March 25th following a series of fundraising cycling events in 40 other states all striving for the same goal. The profits made through this event will go to the American Diabetes Foundation. These events will go towards diabetes research, advocacy, programs and education.

Tour de Cure is targeted towards everyone, hosting a series of events depending on your capability and preference. The cycling event is ten miles, 25 miles, 50 miles, 63 miles, 101 miles and a 5k run/walk.

Nona cycle is directly associated with this event and they are preparing for this event y designing a website for each participant that showcases a donate button where friends and family can support the American Diabetes Foundation. The goal for Nona Cycle is to raise $54,321.00 according to NonaHood, a neighborhood newspaper.

On the day of the event, there will be festivities all around lake nona, especially the town center. There will be tents set up for the participants and volunteers for anyone that has any questions. Red Rider Jerseys will also be seen which will signify those participants who have diabetes, labeled as the “heroes” of the day. Aid stations will be set up throughout to help those participating with sandwiches, gatorades and more. At the end of the course Tijuana Flats will provide lunch and will host an after party for anyone that participated.

This event is a great way to get involved with the community and do something good. 29 million people in the United States have been diagnosed with diabetes, a chronic disease that affects the way your body processes blood sugar (insulin). Having diabetes can affect any part of your body such as your eyes, kidneys, nerves and the digestive system. There is currently no cure for diabetes and the most people can do is get on a diet.
