Stronger is the inspiring true story of Jeff Bauman and how he became a symbol of hope after losing his legs in the Boston Marathon Bombing. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Bauman and he gives one of the best performances of his career. He’s absolutely incredible like always and he captures the spirit of the movie perfectly. Tatiana Maslany also is excellent as Bauman’s girlfriend, Erin Hurley. She has to take care of him with everything and seeing the toll it takes on her and her social life is one of the saddest parts of the movie. The film doesn’t shy away from any of the hardships that he had to face in the recovery process and we see him hit rock bottom. Gyllenhaal can’t get enough praise for this because the movie all rides on him. He has to show how Bauman had to pretend that everything was okay in front of everyone even though he was suffering from PTSD.

Gyllenhaal deserves an Oscar nomination and probably a win. It’s an excellent film about PTSD and how to make the most of what you have. Jeff Bauman is a hero who represents Boston Strong and Stronger is a great story about how one person came back from nothing to being able to walk again. It’s a gut wrenching, heart warming, tear jerking movie that’s one of the best true story films of the year.
