IT Chapter 2 brings back the kids everyone loves from the first film but this time they’re traumatized adults with real problems! 27 years after the supposed defeat of Pennywise, it is back and with a vengeance. The Losers’ Club returns to Derry, Maine to end it once and for all. It’s very much a faithful adaptation to a 1300 page book for better or worse. The film moves very slowly and flows naturally.

The phenomenal casting of the older Losers’ Club makes the movie. James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Jay Ryan, Isaiah Mustafa, and Andy Bean are all great but there are two standouts. James Ransone is perfectly casted and really feels like his younger version grown up. He provides the same comic relief as his character in the first movie but brings some emotional weight to it. This works well partially because of his chemistry with other standout, Bill Hader. Hader is a bonafide comedic genius and brings something special to the table. Bill Skarsgard returns as Pennywise the clown and he’s still just as scary. The way Skarsgard transforms into a monster makes your skin crawl.

De aged Finn Wolfhard is the weirdest thing I have ever seen.

Andres Muschetti gets free reign in this chapter and makes the movie he wants to make. He clearly learns from making the first movie and with an even bigger budget, can make creative choices unlike any other horror movie I’ve seen.

IT Chapter 2 is an epic horror movie with its three hour runtime. Seeing a movie of this scale being able to really do what it wants to is a breath of fresh air with all of the big studio movies that come out now. The scares are bigger and better than ever, without a punchline ruining them. Run and see It just in time for spooky season.
